Sitting Retriever
1994 | 40" x 12" x 31" | Bronze
Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA (2021)
The piece was commissioned by Pete Musser, chairman of the Musser Group and founder of Safeguard Scientifics. Eric Berg sculpted the dog and John Horn, assisted by Stephen Layne, sculpted the man. The Sitting Retriever was purchased at Musser's estate sale and generously donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia in 2021.
There are two different versions of the Sitting Retriever. In one, the dog holds a newspaper in his mouth, in the other his mouth is closed. To create this, the head was cast twice at the foundry but the body of the dog is the same.
